Have you ever found yourself wondering how to become a woman of God in the midst of your beautifully messy, wonderfully ordinary life? Perhaps you’ve scrolled through Instagram, seeing others who seem to have it all together—their quiet time perfect, their homes organised, their faith unwavering—and wondered, “Am I missing something?“
If you’ve ever whispered, “Lord, is this really what being a godly woman looks like?”—you’re not alone. I used to think becoming a woman of God meant achieving some kind of spiritual perfection. Like if I could just pray more, do more, be more… then maybe I’d finally qualify.
But slowly, through early mornings with Scripture, late-night tears, and the Holy Spirit’s gentle nudges, I’ve learned that becoming a godly woman isn’t about doing more—it’s about becoming more like Jesus. And that happens in the ordinary, imperfect moments of real life. So today, I want to walk with you through 7 small, intentional steps—one for each day of the week—to help you become the woman God created you to be.
These aren’t checkboxes or pressure points. They’re invitations to pause, reflect, and realign your heart with His. Let’s begin.
What Does It Mean To Be a Woman of God?
Being a woman of God isn’t about perfection—it’s about intention. It’s not about striving harder but surrendering deeper. The woman of God meaning isn’t found in flawless execution of spiritual disciplines or an Instagram-worthy life, but in a heart that turns toward Jesus, even in the midst of burnt dinners, forgotten appointments, and seasons of doubt.
Becoming a godly woman is a journey, not a destination. It’s saying “yes” to Jesus in the ordinary moments of our everyday lives. Also, it’s allowing the Holy Spirit to work in us and through us, even when—especially when—we feel inadequate.
Over the next seven days, I invite you to join me in intentional practices that can help shape our hearts to become the women God created us to be. These aren’t about adding more to your already full plate.
They’re about creating space for God to work within the beautiful life you’re already living.
“Being a woman of God isn’t about perfection—it’s about intention. It’s not about striving harder but surrendering deeper.”
Day 1: Begin With Surrender – Your Foundation for How to Be a Woman of God
This morning, I knocked over my orange juice while reaching for my Bible, splashing orange liquid across my carefully planned day.
My first reaction? Frustration at the disruption. But then I paused and smiled, recognising God’s gentle reminder that my plans are always subject to His greater purpose.
Being a woman of God starts with open hands—a posture of surrender. Today, I invite you to begin your day with a simple prayer: “Lord, I surrender this day to You. Not my will, but Yours.“
How might your day look different if you approached it not as something to conquer, but as something to surrender? What parts of your life are you still gripping tightly?
Remember, surrender isn’t weakness. It’s acknowledging that God’s plans for you are greater than anything you could orchestrate yourself.
Day 2: Root Yourself in Scripture – Characteristics of a Woman of God
Last week, I found myself overwhelmed with decisions about my future schools, my work commitments, and caring for my aging parents. In that swirl of anxiety, I returned to Psalm 1, which speaks of being “like a tree planted by streams of water.” I realised I was trying to grow without being properly rooted.
A key characteristic of a woman of God is being deeply rooted in Scripture. Not just reading it, but allowing it to read you—to speak into your circumstances and shape your perspective.
Today, choose just one verse to carry with you. Write it on a sticky note, set it as your phone background, or simply commit it to memory.
Return to it throughout your day, allowing God’s Word to nourish your spirit just as water nourishes a tree’s roots.
Day 3: Cultivate Authentic Prayer – How to Become a Godly Woman
Sometimes I catch myself praying what I think are the “right” prayers rather than what’s truly on my heart. But becoming a godly woman means bringing our whole selves—messy emotions and all—before God.
Today, set aside time for honest conversation with Jesus. Not formal, polished prayers, but the kind where you might laugh one moment and cry the next. Tell Him about your frustrations with your partner’s socks on the floor, your worries about that friend who’s pulling away, your dreams that seem impossible.
Prayer isn’t about impressing God with eloquent words. It’s about creating space for relationship. And like any relationship, authenticity is the soil in which it grows.
Day 4: Embrace Your Season – A Woman of God in Real Life
This morning, as I rushed myself through breakfast while simultaneously answering work emails, I felt that familiar guilt creep in—I wasn’t giving anyone my full attention. Perhaps you know that feeling too?
Being a woman of God means embracing your current season with grace, and recognising that God works uniquely in each phase of our lives. Today, I invite you to pause and consider: What is beautiful about your current season? What might God be teaching you through it?
Whether you’re in a season of new beginnings, waiting, grief, or abundance, God is present and at work. Instead of wishing away your current chapter, ask the Holy Spirit to give you eyes to see the purpose in it.
Day 5: Practice Intentional Rest – Being a Woman of God
Yesterday, I found myself saying, “I’ll rest when everything is done“, but then I remembered that in God’s economy, the work is never “done.” There will always be another load of laundry, another email, another person who needs us.
One often-overlooked aspect of becoming a woman of God is embracing God’s rhythm of rest. Today, carve out even 15 minutes of true rest—not scrolling on your phone or catching up on chores, but intentional stillness that allows your soul to breathe.
As you rest, remember that your worth isn’t tied to your productivity. Your value comes from being a beloved daughter of the King, not from what you accomplish.
Day 6: Love Others From Overflow – Becoming a Woman of God in Community
Last Saturday and Sunday, I snapped at my husband over something trivial, and immediately felt convicted. I had been pouring out without taking time to be filled, and everyone around me was feeling the effects.
A woman of God loves others not from depletion but from the overflow of being loved by Jesus. Today, consider: Where do you need to receive God’s love before you can give it away?
Perhaps it’s in forgiving yourself for yesterday’s shortcomings. Maybe it’s in recognising an area where you’ve been trying to earn love rather than receive it freely.
Take one small step toward filling your cup so that you can pour out from abundance rather than scraping the bottom of an empty vessel.
Day 7: Walk in Small Steps of Faith – How to Be a Woman of God in Everyday Life
This week, I felt God nudging me to reach out to a friend who’s going through a difficult time. I hesitated, wondering if my small gesture would make any difference. But I sent the text anyway, and was surprised when she responded saying it came at exactly the right moment.
Becoming the woman God created you to be happens in these small steps of obedience. It’s the daily choices to follow His leading, even when it feels uncomfortable or insignificant.
Today, listen for that still, small voice directing you. It might be prompting you to apologise first, to be generous when it’s inconvenient, or to speak truth when silence would be easier.
Say yes to whatever small step of faith He’s inviting you to take.
“Becoming the woman God created you to be happens in these small steps of obedience—the daily choices to follow His leading, even when it feels uncomfortable or insignificant.”
Final Thoughts
Sweet friend, becoming a woman of God isn’t about reaching some mystical spiritual status. It’s about walking with Jesus one day at a time, allowing Him to transform you from the inside out.
It’s about progress, not perfection.
As we close this week together, I’d love to hear:
Which of these practices resonates most with where you are right now?
What small step can you take today toward becoming the woman God created you to be?
Remember, you’re never walking this journey alone. The same God who called you is faithful to complete the good work He began in you (Philippians 1:6).
With grace and love,

P.S. If this post encouraged you, would you consider sharing it with another woman who might need these words today? Sometimes the greatest ministry happens when we simply pass on what God has given us.
