Do you ever find yourself wondering how to keep your faith strong when life feels like it’s moving at a pace that leaves you breathless? When the calendar is full and your spiritual cup feels emptier by the day?
It’s Wednesday afternoon, and I’m sitting at my kitchen table surrounded by sticky notes, an overly ambitious to-do list, and a cold cup of tea I made over an hour ago. The washing machine is humming in the background, my phone is lighting up with work notifications, and I’ve just remembered I promised to bring cookies to the community group this week.
Oh, and I haven’t spent more than five rushed minutes in prayer all week.
Sound familiar?
As Christian women, we’re often caught in this beautiful, messy tension of trying to honour our commitments whilst keeping Jesus at the centre of it all. Sometimes, it feels like our faith is the first thing to slip when life gets overwhelming. Not because we love God any less, but because the urgent so often drowns out the important.
I’ve been there and I think we all have. And I’ve learned (the hard way) that keeping our faith strong isn’t about adding more spiritual tasks to our already overflowing plates. It’s about finding Jesus in the midst of our everyday moments, allowing His presence to transform our busy seasons from the inside out.
Today, I’m sharing ten gentle, practical ways to keep your faith rooted and flourishing, even when life feels anything but calm. These aren’t perfect solutions.
They’re just grace-filled invitations to remember that God meets us exactly where we are.
Start Small, But Start Somewhere
When life gets overwhelming, our spiritual disciplines often feel like the first thing we should set aside “until things calm down.” But what if, instead of abandoning them completely, we simply scaled them back to something more manageable?
Maybe your hour-long morning devotional time needs to become ten minutes of Scripture and prayer whilst your coffee brews. Perhaps your extensive prayer journaling becomes a few bullet points of gratitude before bed. The Holy Spirit isn’t counting minutes.
He’s looking for your heart.
“Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin.” – Zechariah 4:10
Remember: Consistency in small things often bears more fruit than sporadic grand gestures. Your faith isn’t measured by the length of your quiet time, but by your willingness to show up, just as you are, day after day.
Weave Scripture Into Your Existing Routines
How can we strengthen our faith when we barely have time to breathe? By bringing God’s Word into the spaces we already occupy.
Try listening to an audio Bible during your commute or whilst folding laundry. Write a verse on a sticky note for your bathroom mirror or dashboard. Set Scripture as your phone lock screen.
These small touchpoints with God’s truth can become anchors throughout your day.
One practice that has transformed my busy seasons is “verse-stacking”. By verse stacking I mean choosing one verse to meditate on all week long, letting it sink deeply into my heart rather than rushing through multiple passages.
This allows God’s Word to truly become a lamp unto my feet when the path feels particularly dark or confusing.
Find Sacred Space in “In-Between” Moments
Our lives are full of what I call “in-between” moments i.e. waiting in the school pickup line, standing in the queue at the supermarket, waiting for the kettle to boil, or those few minutes before falling asleep.
Instead of automatically reaching for your phone in these moments, try reaching for God’s presence. Take three deep breaths and whisper, “Jesus, I need you right now.” Recite a memorised Scripture.
Simply acknowledge His presence with you.
These micro-moments of connection with God might seem insignificant, but they can become beautiful threads of prayer woven throughout even your busiest days. This practice helps me remember that strengthening my faith isn’t always about finding more time, but about recognising God’s presence in the time I already have.
Create Triggers for Spiritual Awareness
How do you increase your faith when you’re constantly distracted? By intentionally creating reminders that pull your attention back to God.
Choose everyday actions as triggers for spiritual awareness:
- When you wash your hands, pray for God to cleanse your heart
- When you walk through a doorway, acknowledge God’s presence in this new space
- When you receive a notification, pause for a breath prayer before responding
- When you sip your tea or coffee, thank God for His provision
One of my personal triggers is red traffic lights. Instead of feeling frustrated by the delay, I use those moments to exhale my anxieties and inhale God’s peace. These small practices help me remember that God is with me in every moment, not just during “official” prayer times.
Invite Community Into Your Journey
When asking how to improve my faith during busy seasons, I’ve found that honest community is absolutely essential. We weren’t meant to journey alone.
Even when you can’t commit to weekly Bible studies or lengthy coffee dates, find ways to maintain meaningful spiritual connections. Send a voice note to a trusted friend sharing a struggle or celebration. Create a WhatsApp group where you and a few friends share one thing God is teaching you each week.
Exchange prayer requests via text.
Remember that vulnerability breeds vulnerability. When you’re honest about your spiritual struggles during busy seasons, you create space for others to do the same. There’s something deeply strengthening about knowing you’re not the only one trying to follow Jesus whilst juggling work deadlines, family responsibilities, and the everyday stuff of life.
Transform Waiting Into Worship
We spend so much of our lives waiting—for appointments, for responses, for situations to change. Instead of viewing these moments as frustrating interruptions, what if we reframed them as divine invitations?
In those moments when you’re tempted to fill waiting with scrolling or worrying, try turning your attention to God instead. Breathe deeply and remember who He is. Thank Him for specific blessings in your life. Pray for the people around you.
“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” – Isaiah 40:31
This practice has helped me see that waiting isn’t wasted time. It’s an opportunity to remember that I am held by a God who exists outside of my rushed timelines and urgent deadlines.
Embrace Spiritual Seasons
Just as nature moves through seasons, so does our faith. There are times of obvious growth and times of dormancy, times of abundance and times of pruning. How do we strengthen our faith when we feel spiritually dry?
By remembering that even the desert has its purpose.
During particularly busy or challenging seasons, it’s easy to feel disconnected from God or to measure your faith against previous mountain-top experiences. Instead of judging yourself for not “feeling” as close to God as you once did, try embracing the unique invitation of this season.
Perhaps this busy season isn’t about emotional spiritual highs but about developing faithfulness in the ordinary. Maybe God is teaching you to trust His presence even when you can’t clearly see His hand.
Remember that roots often grow deepest in the dark.
Let Creation Call You Back
When life gets overwhelming and I find myself wondering how I can have more faith in God, I’ve discovered that stepping outside, even for just a few minutes, can realign my perspective.
Feel the sun on your face. Listen to birdsong. Notice the intricacy of a flower or leaf. Let these moments of connection with creation remind you of the Creator.
“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.” – Psalm 19:1
You don’t need a mountain retreat or beach holiday to experience God through creation. A few mindful moments in your garden, local park, or even by an open window can become sacred spaces where your spirit remembers its Source.
Choose Simplicity in Spiritual Practices
How can we increase our faith when we’re already stretched thin? By choosing simplicity over complexity in our spiritual practices.
Instead of trying to read comprehensive devotionals, journal extensively, pray through elaborate prayer lists, and memorise chapters of Scripture all at once, try focusing on one practice that truly nourishes your soul in this season.
For me, during particularly busy periods, that often means returning to the Lord’s Prayer, slowly praying through each line, letting its familiar words ground me in truth. Other times, it might be writing one line of gratitude before bed or listening to worship music whilst cooking dinner.
Remember that Jesus often praised simplicity and childlike faith. Your spiritual practices don’t need to be Instagram-worthy to be transformative.
Redefine What “Strong Faith” Looks Like
Perhaps the most important shift we can make during busy seasons is redefining what “strong faith” actually means.
Strong faith isn’t about perfect attendance at church, lengthy prayer sessions, or emotional spiritual experiences. At its core, strong faith is about trust and believing that God is who He says He is and will do what He’s promised, even when circumstances feel overwhelming.
Sometimes, the strongest faith looks like whispering “I trust you” through tears. Sometimes it’s admitting “I don’t understand, but I’m still here.” Sometimes it’s simply showing up, day after day, with whatever little you have to offer.
“If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” – Matthew 17:20
When I’m wondering how do we increase our faith during overwhelming seasons, I try to remember that Jesus never asked for perfect faith—just faith the size of a mustard seed. And that small seed, planted in the soil of daily life and watered by God’s grace, is enough to move mountains.
A Gentle Invitation
Dear friend, if you’re in a busy season right now, wondering how to keep your faith strong when your planner is full and your energy is low, I want you to hear this: Jesus sees you. Not just your productivity or your spiritual accomplishments, but you in all your beautiful, messy humanity.
The invitation isn’t to do more or be more, but to remember that you are deeply loved, exactly as you are. Your busy season hasn’t separated you from God’s presence.
In fact, it might be the very place where He’s waiting to meet you in new and unexpected ways.
