Many of us, as young adults, can understand what it’s like to want more space at home. We can also understand how impossible this might seem when you have a small bedroom.
But decorating/organising a small bedroom can be very expensive.
Today I want to look at ways to help you organise a small bedroom on a budget. Organisation doesn’t have to be expensive but it can be worthwhile.
What Makes a Bedroom Look Cluttered?
As Christian women we are not inherently immune to having a cluttered bedroom. There have been many an occasion where I have struggled to keep things tidy.
But what exactly makes a bedroom look cluttered?
A bedroom can look cluttered for several reasons:
Too Many Items:
When there are too many things in a bedroom, such as furniture, decor, or belongings, it can make the space feel really overcrowded and disorganised.
Untidy Surfaces:
Clutter tends to accumulate on surfaces like your bedside tables, dressers, and floors. Piles of clothes, books, shoes or other miscellaneous items can create a messy appearance.
Lack of Storage:
Without adequate storage solutions such as closets, drawers, or shelves, your belongings may end up scattered around the room instead of being neatly put away. A lack of storage options can cause your bedroom to appear increasingly messy.
Unorganised Clothes:
Clothes that are strewn on the floor or draped over furniture instead of being properly folded or hung up can contribute to a cluttered look.
Excessive Decor:
Too many decorative items, such as knick-knacks, pillows, photos or even wall art, can overwhelm the space and make it feel chaotic rather than calming.
Visible Clutter:
Any clutter that is visible at a glance, such as overflowing laundry baskets, tangled cords, or stacks of paper, can make your bedroom appear untidy.
Blocked Pathways:
Furniture or other objects blocking pathways or doorways can also create a sense of clutter and prevent movement within the room.
How Can I Incorporate Prayer and Reflection Spaces in My Small Bedroom?
We’re going to be looking at how you can organise your small bedroom on a budget. Before doing that, let’s look at how to add rayer/reflection spaces into a small bedroom.
Creating a special prayer and reflection space in your small bedroom can bring peace. It can also draw you closer to God on a daily basis.
Here’s how you can do it:
Find a Quiet Corner:
Look for a cosy corner in your bedroom where you can have a moment of quiet. It could be by a window, next to your bed, or in a corner with a comfy chair or cushion.
Add Meaningful Decor:
Personalise your prayer space with items that inspire you spiritually. This could be a Bible, a candle, a cross, or a small plant.
Choose items that help you feel connected to your faith in God.
Create a Comfortable Setting:
Make sure your prayer space is comfortable. Add a soft rug, a few cushions, or a blanket to create a welcoming atmosphere where you can relax and focus on prayer.
Set the Mood:
Consider adding some soft lighting or a calming essential oil diffuser to set a peaceful atmosphere. Lighting a candle or using fairy lights can also create a serene ambiance for prayer and reflection.
Include Personal Touches:
Display items that are special to you, such as a favourite prayer card, a picture of loved ones, or a journal for writing down your thoughts and prayers. These kinds of personal touches make your space unique and meaningful to you.
Use Soundscapes or Music:
Play soft instrumental music or nature sounds using a speaker in the background to help you relax and focus. You could also listen to worship songs or hymns that uplift your spirit during prayer and reflection.
Establish a Routine:
Try to spend time in your prayer space regularly, whether it’s in the morning, evening, or whenever you need a moment of peace. Developing a consistent routine can help you make the most of your special space.
How To Organise A Small Bedroom On A Budget
We now understand how to add spaces for prayer and reflection to your bedroom. Here are 10 detailed ways to organise a small bedroom on a budget:
Vertical Storage:
Try adding a few decorative shelves with inspirational quotes or Bible verses to store your favourite books, journals, or decorative items. This not only saves space but also serves as a daily reminder of your faith.
Under-Bed Storage:
Use the space under your bed to store seasonal clothing, extra bedding, or craft supplies in containers covered in some delicate lace or fabric. This hidden storage solution keeps your room clutter-free and allows for easy access when needed.
Double-Duty Furniture:
Like I said earlier, organising a small bedroom on a budget doesn’t have to be expensive.
Opt for a bed with built-in drawers that can hold blankets, linens, or personal keepsakes. Choosing furniture pieces that serve a dual purpose maximises space and adds a touch of elegance to your room.
Closet Organisation:
Arrange your closet with slim, non-slip hangers to keep your clothing neat and easily accessible. You can order inexpensive from Amazon or your local dollar store.
While you’re at it, consider using storage boxes to neatly store accessories, scarves, or shoes – each box could be adorned with a scripture or encouraging message.
Hooks and Pegboards:
Hang decorative hooks or pegboards on the walls to display your hats, bags, or jewellery with a touch of femininity. This functional and attractive storage solution helps keep your items organised and easily accessible.
Corkboard or Magnetic Board:
Personalise a small corkboard or magnetic board with floral designs or uplifting Bible verses to pin notes, photos, or jewellery. This organisational tool not only keeps you on track but also adds a personal touch to your space.
You can also use another corkboard or magnetic board as a prayer wall.
Rolling Cart or Trolley:
Invest in an inexpensive, stylish rolling cart or trolley that can hold your favourite books, Bible study materials, or beauty products.
This versatile mobile storage solution allows you to easily access your essentials while adding a touch of sophistication to your room.
Repurpose Items:
Repurpose vintage crates as bedside tables adorned with lace doilies or fresh flowers. Transform an old ladder into a rustic bookshelf or a tire into an ottoman.
By repurposing items you can display your treasured books and decorative items with a charming, unique twist.
Curtain Divider:
Create a serene and elegant closet space by using a curtain divider made from flowy, inexpensive fabric. This divider not only hides clutter but also adds a touch of warmth and privacy to your room.
Utilise Floating Shelves:
Install floating shelves with intricate scrollwork to display your favourite scriptures, prayer books, or inspirational quotes. These shelves showcase your faith and provide additional storage while maintaining a sense of grace and beauty in your room.
There are also many tutorials on YouTube to help you install these shelves in your bedroom on a budget.
How Do I Stop My Bedroom From Being Messy Again?
Okay so you’ve organised your small bedroom on a budget, but how do you keep things organised after the fact?
No need to worry about that. Keeping your bedroom tidy and organised can be made easier with these simple tips.
Start by spending a few minutes each day decluttering your bedroom. Put away clothes, shoes, and other items that may have accumulated during the day.
Designate specific places for your belongings, such as drawers for clothes, shelves for books, and bins for accessories. This makes it easier to find items and prevents clutter from piling up.
Make it a habit to make your bed every morning. It sets a positive tone for the rest of the room and makes the space look instantly neater.
Remember to follow the “one in, one out” rule. Whenever you bring a new item into your bedroom, try to remove or donate an old one to prevent unnecessary accumulation.
Establish a nightly routine to tidy up before bed. Put away any items that are out of place and do a quick sweep of the room to ensure everything is in order.
Regularly go through your belongings and declutter items you no longer need or use. Donate clothes, books, or decor items that are taking up space but not adding value to your life.
Be mindful of how much decor you add to your bedroom. While it’s nice to personalise the space, too many items can add to the clutter.
Choose a few meaningful pieces and rotate them seasonally for a fresh look. If you share your bedroom with a partner or family member, involve them in keeping the space tidy.
Assign tasks and work together to maintain a clutter-free environment.
Final Thoughts
Small bedrooms can be a challenge, but there are budget-friendly ways to organise them.
As Christian women, we understand clutter. Too much stuff, untidy surfaces, and no storage make it worse.
But, thankfully, we each have unique creative solutions for our organisational challenges.
As we share our tips and experiences, let’s encourage each other to create peaceful spaces that reflect our faith and values. Together, we can transform our cluttered bedrooms into tranquil retreats where we can rest, reflect, and draw closer to God.
Happy organising!
